Ghost Driver Drift & Handbrake Guide

Drifting in Ghost Driver is a deliberate rotation tool — use it to tighten a line or dodge a gap, not to show off. Here is the verified control scheme and the safe way to practice it.

How to drift safely

Pick open road at manageable speed

Approach a clear stretch at a speed you can still correct. Drifting is a rotation tool, not a go-fast button — too much entry speed just becomes a spin-out.

Steer gently, then tap Shift

Start a smooth steer in your intended direction, then tap or briefly hold Shift (handbrake/drift). Release Shift and straighten the wheel to exit the slide.

Different cars, different response

Tunes and drivetrains change how the car rotates. There is no universal press duration — practice in a safe area until the car's behavior is predictable.

When NOT to drift

  • Constant drifting — it burns control and kills your near-miss multiplier.
  • Drifting on a straight road — a normal smooth input is more predictable.
  • Chasing style points until you lose the car — survival pays more than flair.

Taming oversteer while you learn

If the rear keeps stepping out, open the options menu and turn on Traction Control. It reduces oversteer and helps you stay straight in heavy traffic — ideal until ordinary placement is reliable. Turn it off later once your entries are controlled.

Ghost Driver Drift FAQ

Q.What button drifts in Ghost Driver?

Hold or tap Shift for the handbrake/drift. Combine it with a gentle steer to rotate the car, then release and straighten to recover. Exact feel varies by car and tune.

Q.Why does my car oversteer or spin out when drifting?

Entry speed is too high or the Shift press is too long. Shorten the Shift tap, slow down before the turn, and steer earlier. Turning on Traction Control in the options menu also reduces oversteer while you learn.

Q.What do I do if the car flips or gets stuck?

Press R to reset the vehicle. It is the quickest recovery and far safer than fighting a stuck orientation in traffic.

Why drifting is a cash tool, not just a style choice

A controlled drift keeps the car rolling while you change direction, which keeps you inside the near-miss scoring window instead of scrubbing speed against a barrier. On the middle lanes that converts straight into multiplier uptime: the longer you hold a clean run, the higher the streak climbs before a collision resets it.

Handbrake entry rotates the car fastest, but it is also the quickest way to lose the rear end on a shallow curve. Feather the throttle back in on exit rather than flooring it, and practise on an empty stretch before trying it in live traffic.
